Our Programs
The Vancouver Island Pegasus Project is committed to serving those who would normally have difficulty accessing horses, either due to financial constraints or through difficulty integrating into a regular lesson program.
We currently provide access in the following three areas:
Little Wings Programs
Full or Partial funding is available for our Little Wings horsemanship programs.
These programs teach basic horse handling skills in a fun and safe manner. Kids develop confidence, empathy and patience while learning how to skillfully handle a variety of horses and ponies safely and effectively. While the majority of the Little Wings programs are focused on ground work, participants, once they have mastered a series of skills, will also be given a basic introduction to riding work while on a lead or long-line.
The Little Wings horsemanship programs are perfect for kids who have had little or no exposure to horses and who need to learn how to handle a horse safely and correctly before being integrated into a faster paced traditional lesson program. Little Wings might also suit those children who wish to enjoy working with horses but prefer not to ride.
The Little Wing's Horsemanship Programs are perfect for kids between the ages of 6 - 14.
Wind Runner Programs
Full or partial funding is available for our Wind-Runner programs. This program is ideal for children over the age of 12 who have a desire to eventually develop a career in the equine industry. Many networking and employment opportunites are available to those who desire to be future coaches or trainers, barn managers, animal technicians, veterinarians, or in a variety of other animal science fields.
Wind-Runner links kids who have mastered basic horse handling skills, and who wish to pursue their riding career, with participating Coaches in the community. Motivated young riders will have access to regular riding lessons and will be given the skills to be able to further their own goals both in the equestrian community and beyond.
